Can anyone tell me where to find lots of free knitting wool for a charitable cause?

I am organising a group of over 50s to knit for children in hospital, neo-natal units, orphanages abroad etc. The group gives a social outlet for people who may be socially isolated, while at the same time doing something good for others.
