Why are all post-grunge bands so trashy and lame lyrically?

When, for me at least, their sound is so awesome. Creed, Nickelback, etc., all have the stupidest lyrics and douchiest members, but something about the metal-and-country derived sound and big, raspy singing voices gets me every time. Why can't some literate, college educated guys play in a band with that kind of sound?
