Do I have a throat infection?

My throat's been sore on and off for the past few days, but this morning i woke up with an un bearable sore throat, I gargled salt water and took a few throat lozenges and fell back asleep. Throughout the day it has still been pretty sore, and i periodically lose my voice completely. Sometimes it starts to feel okay, but i get up to do something and it hits again. It's like a burning feeling, and it feels like its swollen and its pretty hard to swallow solid food, i can tell there's phlegm there. I'm also coughing a fair bit, but it's a dry cough. I checked out my tonsils, and as of about 7 hours ago, my right one was really red and swollen, but i didn't notice any white spots. Does anybody have any idea of what this could be?
